This means they will work with games programmed to use Xinput. XInput originated as an Xbox controller-exclusive API, but many third-party controllers (not made by Microsoft) now also support it.

Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S controllers also currently use XInput on Windows.

It’s a legacy interface supported by many PC game controllers released before 2005, and also some controllers (and retro controller adapters) after that time. DirectInput: This gaming input API first appeared in 1995 as part of DirectX 1.0 for gaming on Windows 95, then supported on subsequent versions of Windows. Here’s a quick look at the origins of each one: If the game expects XInput but the controller only “speaks” DirectInput, that controller won’t work with that game, and vice-versa. Some controllers can only speak one “language” (XInput or DirectInput), while others can “speak” both APIs in different modes. To put it another way, these APIs are like two different languages that a game controller might speak. Make a ticket then, this is extremely strange… If you wish you can also always try a reset if you really wanna test everything and arent afraid of losing any data on your Shadow. The two main gaming input APIs in Windows are called DirectInput and XInput. I am just reporing this since it might help in finding a solution to making Fortnite playable with a controller like any other game. Can someone technical from support please help me? This verified this on all platforms/connections/apps. Using the glitch there is no fullscreen, no sound, and no functioning A-button. I just found a glitch/bug where Fortnite switches to controller mode in windowed mode when I mouseclick/touch outside the Fortnite window. The game is still not playable using a controller. And I cannot jump when I tried in-game.ĭo not get me wrong: I did NOT find a solution. For example: I cannot enter a menu item using A when I pressed the menu button. Of course this is not a playable solution since there is no sound, and there is one more weird thing: The A button on the controller works only in select Fortnite screens. But the strange thing is: When the Fortnite window is not the active window, the controller suddenly (sort of) works in Fortnite! Fortnite instantly switches to controller mode when a button on the controller is pressed, like it should do. When I click outside the fortnite window, the sound of Fortnite disappears, which is quite logical when you click outside the app window.
I accidentally found that when I am running in windowed mode. I tested Fortnite on Shadow in fullscreen mode, as wel as windowed mode. There is one weird thing I found that might be useful for someone who knows how shadow works on the inside:
